Vier jaar geleden alweer!

I have been quiet here for a while. Just before Christmas, I had surgery. My recovery was actually too short, because soon after that the campaign for the municipal elections started. I struggled to divide my energy, so my miniatures had to wait for a while. In March, the municipal elections took place. With FlorAalsmeer, we won 3 seats, which is something I am still very proud of. But after that, things did not immediately slow down. Still, little by little, I have found moments to work on my canal house again. The outside is now covered with tiny bricks. It was a lot of work, but they are finally all in place. I made all the window frames and windows myself. The clock gable is handmade as well. And now comes a job I am not exactly looking forward to: grouting all the bricks. The video is a bit longer than usual, but this is the update so far. Sometimes progress is slow. Sometimes it happens in small steps. Brought a visit to the dollhouse fair in Houten, where I saw @b_sijs, @moniqueboughtadollshouse and @hoek.caroline 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 Bought just a few items and picked up my order at #hetkralennest (more wood to bend 😁) It was busy, and I saw a lot of new participants from all over Europe. Went home with a lot of inspiration. After reading the book 'Het Hollandse pronkpoppenhuis' I decided to put the staircase in a different place. Not at the end of the hallway, but at two third of it, on the left. It gives a better view of the staircases and I will be able to have a better layout of all the rooms. The book I mentioned above is about three dollshouses which date from the 17tht and 18tht century and are kept in some of the greatest museums in The Netherlands and is specifically about the interior and household between 1675 and 1750. It's a must have when one is looking for examples to build a period dollhouse. For certain this will be a long and huge project. After finally deciding where to put the stairs I have gained more challenges then I expected. The whole house needs a new layout, locations of fireplaces and secretions are crucial. The basement needs a logical but determined layout and bringing this all to a 19th century (1893) house means overcoming many difficulties. Transformation from a photo studio to a craft room. I don't think many of you know I am, or used to be, a professional photographer. Due to corona I lost a lot of clients and assignments, and somehow that never fully recovered. Before that, in 2018, I started with my first dollhouse and continued that in the 'forbidden' period. Now it is what drives me most. My craft room however can be transformed to a photo studio. Today I had a shoot with a lovely family, the last one this year. The last for an unknown period, just like me working on my dollhouse and miniatures. I have to undergo surgery on december 24 and do not know how long I will be out of order. I hope it will be for a short period, but I will take the time I need to recover. Due to all kinds of reasons I haven'n done much for the last couple of weeks. One of them was lack of time..... unfortunately. So I made another staircase, and a third, using the first as example, in between work, meetings, appointments, writing, calling and sleeping. Yesterday I found time to paint them. Next will be the hardest part; bending wood for the railing. But I do have a mould now, so it should be easier than the first one. Still corners are mindbreaking things. But I will get there. Juist a few more sleepless nights will help me figure it out 😅 . . . Om allerlei redenen heb ik de afgelopen weken niet veel gedaan. Eén daarvan was tijdgebrek... helaas. I love my @bambulab_official P1S printer......always try to find something to print. Because I could not find wooden spindles I like I decided to print them. Found a great design on thingiverse, adjusted it to what I want and printed them. Also the brackets for the side of the steps. Painted them with van Dijck brown to resemble the stair. Al I have to do is wait for the wood to make the curved banister and side of the stairs to finish. I never tried wood carving before, but there was no other way to achieve the curve underneath the stairs, so I tried, and it worked out. Just do it..... Going to old houses paid of, watching how stairs are placed, decorated, curved. So I'm gonna try to carve the curved part of the banister. Mijn eerste trap, zelf gemaakt. Maar.....ik ben er helemaal niet blij mee. Ik hou van trappenhuizen, groots, breed, majestueus en niet weggestopt in een hoekje maar als statement en een must. Proces is going slow, taking my time. Want to be sure the layout is what I want, but for that I have to know what I want. Still searching for floor plans -which are hard to find- of original canalhouses. Basement is clear, but upstairs will need more research. Taking my time..... Meanwhile I went to the #dhnshow in Papendal with my sister @astrid_vd_drift. We had a great day and bought beautiful miniatures from various artisans, I will show some later. Sawdust everywhere......I did a nearly complete renovation in two days. Okay not nearly finished yet 😂 This is the hardest part, because no matter how you draw or sketch, while tearing down walls and building them up again there's always that moment - do I really want that, and what about the fireplace, chimney - you have to re-consider. I bought this fineer tabletop from @bibianangelique over a year ago. Yesterday I decided to make a table with this fineer finish on top. It turned out the inner circle with inlay leaves didn't git, it was too large and I had to adjust it to fit. Gosh that made me sweat 😅. And the inner part, round as well, didn't fit either. I sanded it slightly, being careful not to break the thin fineer. With a lot of patience and less glue it worked out very well. I did give the leaves a stain, they where green but that didn't fit the interior. I used similar fineer for the edge of the table. Next step will be the foot of the table. Also a first. I love it so far, very delicate cut and a beautiful design. To be continued! . . . Ik kocht dit fineer tafelblad meer dan een jaar geleden bij @bibianangelique. Gisteren besloot ik een tafel te maken met deze fineer afwerking van het tafelblad. Het bleek dat de binnenste cirkel met ingelegde bladeren niet paste, hij was te groot en ik moest hem aanpassen. Jeetje, daar werd ik helemaal gek van 😅. En het binnenste deel, het rondje, paste ook niet. Ik heb het lichtjes geschuurd, voorzichtig om het dunne fineer niet te breken. Met veel geduld en weinig lijm is het uiteindelijk toch gelukt. Ik heb de bladeren wel gebeitst, ze waren groen, maar dat paste niet bij het interieur. Ik heb een vergelijkbare fineer gebruikt voor de rand van de tafel. De volgende stap is de voet van de tafel. Ook een primeur voor mij. Ik ben er tot nu toe helemaal weg van, heel fijn gesneden en een prachtig ontwerp. So I used an OLD doll, stripped her completely, sanded the face, took off the hair and ultimately also the whole body including arms and legs.... Made a new body, more in scale, made a new dress, wig and painted a complete new face. And forgot to film it. It's. Just. One. Of. Those. Things. Maybe next one. 😇 . . . Dus ik gebruikte een OUDE pop, kleedde haar helemaal uit, schuurde het gezichtje, verwijderde het haar en uiteindelijk ook het hele lichaam, inclusief armen en benen... I bought this play-table as a kit from #arjenspinhoven. I love his work, so beautifully detailled. I do howevere want to give each item I purchase a twist, my signature and what I want it to look like. So I sand it, distress it, colour it, stain it, and sand it again. I like round edges, and want it to look used, not new. Ad if it has been in the family for ages. I'm totally happy with how this turned out. 🙏🏻♥️ . . . Turned the cable chaos into order. Found two lights to fix and gave some others a plug. Wrote on the wall which wire is what lamp. Very satisfying to do. I will add a few lamps and then start the final finish of Ashcroft Hall. . . . De kabelchaos opgeruimd. Twee lampen gevonden om te repareren en een paar andere een stekker gegeven. Op de muur geschreven welke draad bij welke lamp hoort. The attic is finished. Over time more stuff will end up there, including dust and cobwebs. The attic has a loft ladder to the roof. That also has to be accessible. Next room to finish is the nanny's bedroom. That will be the final room. All that's left is some final touches and decoration. After that Ashcroft Hall is finished and ready to be occupied by it's residents. Dolls will be the next challenge.bapart from the canalhouse ofcourse 😅 Have you spotted the kittens? . . . De zolder is klaar. Na verloop van tijd zullen er nog meer spullen op belanden, waaronder stof en spinnenwebben. De zolder heeft een vlizotrap naar het dak. Die moet natuurlijk ook toegankelijk zijn. De volgende kamer die afgemaakt moet worden, is de slaapkamer van de nanny. Dat wordt de laatste kamer. Het enige wat dan nog rest zijn wat laatste details en decoratie. Daarna is Ashcroft Hall klaar en klaar om bewoond te worden door de bewoners. Yesterday, July 29, was the 95 birthday of our father. He sadly passed away in 2006. In honour and memory of him my brother invited me and my sister for a special day out. He took us to the @franshalsmuseum in Haarlem. It's located in a beautiful street with old houses which brought us back in time. Besides the beautiful paintings of Frans Hals and several other period painters there is a dollhouse, made by Sara Ploos van Amstel-Rothé (Amsterdam 1699 - Halfweg 1751) and is about 300 years old. It's a stunning house with beautiful decorations and shows the wealth of Sara. And ofcourse it provides inspiration for my next dollhouse, the canalhouse. Ashcroft Hall is nearly finished. In fact, last details will take only a couple of weeks. Feeling a bit sad, but proud of what I have accomplished. Next will be the start of the canalhouse, for which I am using the dollhouse I bought from @artandminiart a year ago. In the last year I did a lot of research about canalhouses, period and interior. Yesterday, me and my sister @astrid_vd_drift had a great day in Amsterdam visiting two canalhouses in their original state. Well, not in the state when they where built, but from over a century ago. Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are gonna get. And although I'm not a fan of chocolat, I agree with the saying. Like today, where I was supposed to go over to an aquaintance to look at roomboxes made by the late mother. Little did I know I would leave an hour later with 11 roomboxes they gave to me, because they knew the boxes, made with so much love, would have a new home and destination. I was overwhelmed, happy and grateful. For now I displayed them in my craftroom, tidied them up a little and will decide what to do with them later. . Today I got a box of chocolates with more surprises than I ever could have imagined. 🙏🏻♥️ . . . Het leven is als een doos bonbons, je weet nooit wat je krijgt. En hoewel ik geen fan ben van chocolade, ben ik het eens met het gezegde. Zoals vandaag, toen ik naar een kennis ging om de roomboxen te bekijken die moeder/schoonmoeder had gemaakt. Na haar overlijden waren deze bij dochter en schoonzoon op zolder beland. Ik had geen idee dat ik een uur later met 11 roomboxen zou vertrekken, omdat ze wisten dat de boxen, met zoveel liefde gemaakt, een nieuw thuis en een nieuwe bestemming zouden krijgen. Ik was overweldigd, blij en dankbaar. Voor nu heb ik ze in mijn atelier tentoongesteld, ze een beetje opgeruimd en ik zal later beslissen wat ik ermee ga doen. . The linen room. First this room was meant to be a bedroom for one of the servants. But the linen cupboard didn't fit the landing. So I changed it while doing. This is what the process is s like, it changes while it is created. That feels like making an artwork, which also changes and where you go with what the art gives you. And that's why I love doing what I do. . . . De linnenkamer. Oorspronkelijk was deze kamer bedoeld als slaapkamer voor een van de bedienden. Maar de linnenkast paste niet op de overloop. Dus heb ik hem tijdens het maken aangepast. Zo gaat het proces, het verandert tijdens het creëren. Dat voelt als het maken van een kunstwerk, dat ook verandert en waar je heen gaat met wat de kunst je geeft. Right, this has been the biggest make-over/upholstery so far. I had this rocking horse for the nursery but I didn't like it at all. Looking at photos of actual antique rocking horses I knew I had to make it into mine. It was quite a job, with a lot of filling and sanding, but gee I'm so happy with the result! And yes, also proud I did it! And it actually looks like a horse too! The saddle was a challenge, but Pinterest is patient. I know, I know.....should not be working on my new dollhouse before finishing Ashcroft Hall...... But I need the thinking process to get the plans for the attick in my head. So due to lack of these plans I decided to build the stairs to the frontdoor including the door to the downstairs floor or basement. And it was going so well I forgot to make a video and more pictures. So sorry 😇 . . . I started with the table setting in the dining room. Underneath the tablecloth I made an exact copy of the tabletop in cardboard, so I can take it off for another setting,vlike Christmas or breakfast. So first I made three centerpieces with different roses. I also made the napkins and gave them a little ornament for more style. Hopefully tommorow plates and cutlery, although I'm still searching for the right designs for the plates..... What a luxury 🥰 . . . Ik ben begonnen met de tafelschikking in de eetkamer. I have been thinking long and hard about posting this or not, but due to several people reaching out I decided to do. I became quite ill at the end of January, right after the dollhouse fair in Houten, and finally ended up at the A&E three times. It took a lot of research and many visits to the hospital to find out I have an autoimmune disease called sarcoïdosis. There's no cure or medicine, only pain killers. Although I'm feeling better than two months ago, I'm still very tired and experiencing pain but I can controll that in a way by taking pain killers. There's no prognoses, it may disappear, but it can also turn out to be chronic. For now I focus on it to disappear 🙏🏻 So that's why I haven't posted anything since January, Thank everyone for being worried and sending me messages. I have started doing some things, but due to lack of energy it's not much. I hope to post again with some progress I made at the exterior. Step by step, little by little. Augustus vorig jaar (2024) kocht ik dit poppenhuis van @artandminiart. Ze wilde heel graag dat ik het overnam en ik ben blij dat ik besloten heb dat te doen. Hoewel ik nog steeds bezig ben met mijn #ashcrofthall en dat nog een hele tijd zal doen, ben ik plannen aan het maken voor dit enorme grachtenpand. Ik ga de voorkant/deur naar de zijkant verplaatsen, aan twee zijden open maken en een nieuw dak majen. Alle ramen worden vervangen evenals de trappenhuizen. Om je een idee te geven van de omvang; na het uitbouwen van de zijkant, die nu op de foto de voorkant is, met 10 cm is het totale huis 57 breed, 130 diep en ongeveer 140 hoog, in cm. Enorm, ik weet het, maar grenzeloze mogelijkheden. Ik ben er dol op 🥰 . . . August last year (2024) I bought this dollhouse from @artandminiart. She really wanted me to have it and I'm glad I decided to do so. Although I'm still working on my #ashcrofthall and will be for quite a while, I am making plans for this huge canal house to be. I will replace the front to the side, make it open on two sides and give it a new roof. All the windows will be replaced as well as the staircases. In order to give you an idea of the seize; after expanding the side which is now the front with 10cm the total house measures 57 wide, 130 deep and approximately 140 high, in cm. The facade of Ashcroft hall so far. First 3 floors are done as far as basic decorating. I started with the pavement at the front door and will finish the balconies before moving on to the last room on the 4th floor. After that the attic will be the next project with a room for the children and many, hiesekeeper/staff and storage. Last will be the roof with a cupola and various chimnnys. A few years ago I made my own pleater using thick cardboard and Mikado sticks. Still glad I did, because everytime I have to make curtains I'm happy I have it. Fairly easy to make, and with some tricks it results in beautiful curtains. Spend a few hours fixing and organizing all the electric wires neatly on the backside of my dollhouse. Yesterday I connected everything and turned the power on. Unfortunately the beautiful chandelier in the dining room doesn't work..... Now I have to figure out why and what to do ... . . . Got these Corniches from Sue Cook and wanted to do something different with them. So instead of leaving them all white I painted them olive green and make the details gold. They will fit the wallpaper perfect I choose for the bedroom. What do you think? . . Ik heb deze Corniches bij Sue Cook gekocht en wilde er iets anders mee doen.
